You can see all of our toothpaste ingredients on our Ingredient page here.
1. Erythritol: Erythritol is a natural sweetener derived from fruits like melons and grapes, and it serves several important roles in toothpaste. Not only does it provide a mild sweetness without contributing to cavities, but it also helps prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in the mouth, which can contribute to tooth decay. While it’s higher on the ingredient list, rest assured that the amount in the formula is carefully balanced to ensure efficacy and safety.
2. Xanthan Gum: Xanthan gum is a natural thickening agent derived from fermented sugars. It plays a key role in the consistency of the toothpaste, helping it to stay smooth and evenly spread on your brush. Without it, the texture could become gritty or separate over time.
3. Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C): Ascorbic acid is included in our formula due to its antioxidant properties, which help support gum health. Vitamin C can assist in maintaining healthy oral tissues and is a beneficial ingredient for overall gum care.
4. Citric Acid: You’re correct that citric acid is often used as a preservative. In our toothpaste, it helps maintain the product’s stability and pH balance. We are aware of concerns around citric acid and its relation to stomach acid issues, but when used in toothpaste, it is in minimal amounts and is not ingested, so it does not contribute to those digestive concerns.
We strive to create products that are both effective and aligned with our commitment to sustainability and "clean" formulations. However, we understand that ingredient preferences vary, and your feedback is invaluable to us as we continue to innovate and refine our products.
… The citric acid is so low in terms of the formula but it's not even a conversation. We use the chamomile and the glycerin as the preservative in organic formulas.
