Polyolefin materials using EcoPure have been tested via ASTM D5511 to show 40.2% biodegradation over 385 days of testing compared to the same polyolefin material without EcoPure showing 3.2% biodegradation over the same testing period. Results shall not be extrapolated past the actual duration of the test. Our handles and travel cases are made with EcoPure which allows them to break down in landfills. They attract microbes in a normally bacteria-free environment and then break down. If you put a toothbrush in a landfill, where 99.9% of all toothbrushes end up because there is no collection stream in the USA that can process toothbrushes or most oral care, it will sit there for 1000 years. If you understand and are honest and logical about the waste streams available and design for them, you can design a toothbrush or any product to have a logical end of life. We focus on “logical sustainability.” That means understanding the beginning of life and end of life of a product and ensuring that users don’t need to be scientists to figure out how to dispose of their products. We do the work for them. Our products will not be a part of the landfill problem like so many others.
